Is the WAV better quality than an MP3 extraction?
Yes, in the sense that it adds no further loss. It contains exactly what the MP4's AAC track decodes to, while an MP3 extraction re-compresses that a second time.
Does it restore the original recording quality?
No. The AAC inside the MP4 is already lossy, and nothing can recover what it discarded. WAV simply stops any further loss from being added.
Why is the size limit lower than for MP4 to MP3?
Because the output is far larger than the input here rather than far smaller, and it is the output that has to fit in memory. Extracting to MP3 shrinks the file about fortyfold; extracting to WAV can grow it.
What sample rate and bit depth do I get?
The source rate is kept — usually 48 kHz for video — and samples are written as standard 16-bit PCM, which every editor reads.
Would FLAC be better?
Often, yes. FLAC stores identical samples losslessly at roughly half the size, and most editing software reads it. Choose WAV when a specific tool demands uncompressed input.
What happens to 5.1 audio?
It is downmixed to stereo by default. If you need the individual channels preserved, a desktop tool is the better route — this converter is built around the stereo case.
