AAC to WAV FAQ
Does converting to WAV improve the audio?
No. The AAC is lossy and what it discarded cannot be recovered. WAV stops further loss from being added, which is a different and more useful thing.
Why does my .aac file not seek properly?
Because it is a raw stream with no container. Converting to WAV — or to M4A, which is AAC in a container — gives you a file that seeks reliably.
Why is the WAV so much larger?
Because it stores every sample uncompressed, about 10 MB per minute in CD-quality stereo. A compressed file that was small becomes proportionally large.
When should I choose this over AAC to MP3?
When the audio is going into software rather than a player. Editors, samplers and game engines want PCM; MP3 would add a second lossy generation for no benefit.
Is FLAC an option instead?
Yes and usually a better one — identical samples at roughly half the size, readable by most editors. Choose WAV only when a tool insists on uncompressed input.
Is it really free?
Yes — every conversion on this site, with no account, no watermark and no daily cap. The work happens on your own device, so there is no server bill for us to pass on to you.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in any modern browser, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for, and once you have converted a file on the page it keeps working with the network switched off.
