Accepts .qif · Up to 20 files at a time · up to 1.4 GB each "Upload" and "download" here mean your browser reading a file from this device and writing one back to it. Your file is never sent to a server — open your browser's network panel and watch: no request carries your file.

QIF files do not say which order they use. One date after the 12th settles it; a file with none is read month first, the way Quicken writes it.

Excel in Germany, France and much of Europe expects semicolons between cells and a comma in numbers. Anywhere else, keep the default.

Tested against an open-source reader

Short answer: The CSV opens in Excel with accented payees intact and amounts as numbers, in the standard form CSV importers expect. 25 QIF files from the test suites of three open-source projects (quiffen, qifparse and csv2ofx) — bank, cash, card and investment records, day-first and month-first dates — were read here and by the Python library quiffen. Across the 21 files that hold transactions, 431 of 435 fields in 87 transactions came out identical, and the four that differ are fields quiffen does not read.
What was checkedResult
QIF files with transactions21 files, 87 transactions: 431 of 435 fields identical (date, amount, payee, memo, number)
Day-first files (23/10/2013)read day-first without being told, every date correct
European amounts (-1.234,56)read as −1234.56
Synthetic file with a known answer10,000 transactions, every field exact

The four differing fields are the amount and payee of two investment records, which quiffen leaves empty and this page reads from the record’s $ and P lines. For the day-first files, quiffen had to be told the order; this page found it from the first date past the 12th.

QIF to CSV FAQ

Are the dates read the right way round?

QIF does not record its date order, so it is worked out from the file: a single date like 23/10/2013 settles it as day-first for every date. Files with no date past the 12th are read month-first, as Quicken writes them, and “Dates in the file” lets you override that. Dates are written 2024-01-31 in the CSV, which nothing can misread.

My QIF has amounts like 1.234,56. Are those read correctly?

Yes. When both a full stop and a comma appear, the last one is the decimal mark, so 1.234,56 is 1234.56 and 1,234.56 is too. A lone comma followed by exactly three digits is a thousands separator; any other lone comma is a decimal comma. Every amount comes out in one plain form with two decimal places.

Why are splits in one column instead of separate rows?

So that the Amount column still adds up. A split transaction’s parts sum to its total; written as extra rows they would be counted on top of it. Each part appears in the Splits column as “category: amount”, separated by semicolons, and can be split out in a spreadsheet if needed.

What does the Cleared column mean?

It is the transaction’s reconciliation mark from Quicken, copied as written: blank for uncleared, * or c for cleared, X or R for reconciled. The column only appears when at least one transaction has a mark.

Which CSV layout should I pick?

The default comma-separated layout works in nearly every program. The semicolon layout, with a comma in numbers, is for Excel set up for continental Europe, which would otherwise open a comma file as one column.

Is the file uploaded?

No. The QIF is read and the CSV written inside this page; your transactions never leave your device. You can confirm it in your browser’s network panel while converting.

Is it really free?

Yes — every conversion on this site, with no account, no watermark and no daily cap. The work happens on your own device, so there is no server bill for us to pass on to you.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in any modern browser, on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for, and once you have converted a file on the page it keeps working with the network switched off.
